MJM680 Signs mark the spot of the Project Rulison Nuclear Explosive Emplacement Well on the property of Cary Weldon (cq) outside of Parachute, Colo. Tuesday July 17, 2007. The nuclear blast was used in 1969 to drill for gas. When it was discovered that the gas was contaminated, a three mile no drilling radius was drawn up, but now oil companies are attempting to drill within the three mile safety zone. Weldon and other nearby residents are concerned that oil and gas companies are drilling within the three mile radius. Weldon put the signs around the concrete pad and plaque that were already there.
