(from left) Isidro Gutierrez (cq), Rafael Adolfo Salcido Campos (cq) and Ismael Ruiz Reyes (cq) take a break from work under the shade of a tree at The Arapahoe Acres Nursery in Denver, Colorado on June 28th, 2007. The nursery employs a dozen legal guest workers each year, for the labor-intensive work that is required for the planting, caring and harvesting of the pines, flowers and vines that they sell. Economist Tucker Hart Adams says failure to provide businesses with a means to employ thousands of legal guest workers filling vacant positions could result in an economic downturn in the state. Hardest hit will be nursuries, and hospitality businesses. Her comments today come as the Senate drove a stake Thursday through President Bush's plan to legalize millions of unlawful immigrants, likely postponing major action on immigration until after the 2008 elections.
