(4/16/2005, DENVER, CO.) Franklin, 20, spent his entire life in Denver Public schools and ended up at George Washington High School. He made it to his senior year, when he found the classes were not interesting for him and the stress level went way up - so he dropped out and joined the Spot GED Program after a friend in a similar situation told him about it. He wasnt to got to college and study animation, illustration and automotive mechanics. For the 6th year, The Spot, Urban Peak Denver, The Community College of Denver, the GED Institute and The Adams Mark Hotel celebrate the educational accomplishments of homeless and urban youth who have earned their GED. This year, over 60 youth will walk away in cap and gown with their diploma in hand. In Denver, 24% of young people fail to earn a high school diploma. Urban Peak Denver and The Spot, offer young people the opportunity to learn and excel at their own pace. Youth will participate in a traditional graduation ceremony complete with caps, gowns and graduation rings. (Photo by Judy Walgren/ ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
