Regina Hathorne suffers from stage 4 breast cancer which puts her in the permanent disability category as her disease is terminal. She receives $768 a month from Social Security after working for thirty years. With that income, she must pay the $290 a month for supplemental insurance, or she would not be able to get the Herceptin treatments every three weeks, which cost $7000 per treatment. She has other medications and treatments she needs for the cancer that has spread to her bones, her brain and to her lungs and chest cavity. She and her husband, David Lee Billingsley, who is also disabled, eat well two weeks out of the month, then must rely on food stamps for the other half. She feels that the intense financial stress she is under is literally crushing her to death. (JUDY DEHAAS/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) **
