Richard Scharf (cq) President and CEO of the Denver Metro Convention and Vistors Bureau took over the organization just before the convention arena doubled in size and has led the effort to fill it with enough business to justify the $300 million price tag. Roughly 1,000 conventions are currently on the books for the next few years and the bureau has set records for bookings in each of the three years since Scharf took the helm. He was instrumental in putting together a package that convinced the Democratic National Party to decide Denver could handle its 2008 convention.
