(DEER TRAIL shot on 3/31/05) Deer Trail residents Richard Barnes, 28 and his two children AJ Aldridge, 9, and Katlynn Barnes (cq), 5, ride atop one another on a sled Thursday on a hill across the road from their home in Deer Trail. The eldest Barnes said he wasn't able to go to work because of the snow and the two kids had the day off of school because of the snow. They said it had been snowing all night and into the morning on Thursday before the sun broke through again and started to warm things up again. A potent winter storm barreled out of the Colorado mountains and pounded the Eastern Plains on Thursday, dropping up to 8 inches of snow, closing schools and highways and piling up 4-foot drifts in places. This storm will soon be a distant memory as temperatures over the weekend are expected to reach the high 60s and low 70s.(Photo by MARC PISCOTTY/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
