(San Luis, Colo., May 20, 2004) In the San Luis Valley, the poorest county in Colorado no one goes without primary care thanks to a huge federal grant and an altruistic group of heathy care professionals who founded Valley Wide Health Care Clinics. There are 7 clinics in the valley, the San Luis Health Center is the oldest. At Home Health Care works with Valley Wide in providing at home care for some 30 residents in the area. Leeann Smith finishes her visit with Irene Quintana who walks her to the door with their daughter Lorrie who is visiting them. Irene's husband Ben has alzheimer and Irene recently had a heart attack. Leeann helps them get the right medication and checks their vitals. It would be hard for them to get to the clinic on weekly visits. (Photo by: Linda McConnell/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
