Patrick Strawmatt, 42, a former Lafayette police officer with a long arrest record since leaving the force, slammed into a car carrying Jennifer Kois, of Brighton, and her boyfriend Jake Brock late Thursday. Kois and Brock were 19-year-old students at Mesa State College in Grand Junction. Police say Strawmatt, of Wheat Ridge, was traveling at 120 mph while being pursued by a Colorado State Patrol trooper when he crashed into the car on Interstate 70 near Clifton.
