DLM1641 One of 60 transferred dogs waits to be moved into the Colorado Humane Society shelter in Englewood, Colo. Tuesday, March 20, 2007. The shelter had to throw out almost all of its food after millions of containers of dog and cat food sold at major retailers across North America were recalled because an unknown number of cats and dogs had suffered kidney failure after eating it. Fortunately for the shelter hundreds of people came by Tuesday with pet food and cash donations before the shipment of transfer animals arrived otherwise they would not have had the food to feed them and would have had to turn them away, which would have meant many of them would have been euthanized.(DARIN MCGREGOR/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
