(DENVER, Co. - SHOT 3/18/2005) Shawneque Swagerty (cq, left), 24 of Denver and Gregory Bacon, 23, of Kansas City, Mo. walks back to Swagerty's home through Civic Center Park with dinner as the Downtown Denver skyline looms in the background. Civic Center Park has the reputation of being a somewhat dangerous place especially after dark but Swagerty said she's never had any problems and said she walks through the park all the time because she lives close to it. Denver is working on a plan to turn Civic Center Park into a destination point in downtown Denver by possibly connecting it to the 16th Street Mall and perhaps even burying part of Colfax Avenue to make the whole area more pedestrian friendly. The ambitious plan calls for reviving the area around the park that has largely become a haven for drug dealers and users and the homeless. The city hopes to make the park an entertainment center with food stands, concerts, film series and other attractions. (Photo by MARC PISCOTTY/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
