(DENVER, Co. - SHOT 3/16/2005) Dennis Caplis, 40, of Great Falls, Mont. uses his worn boots as a pillow one afternoon while catching a nap in Civic Center Park one afternoon. Caplis has been staying at the Denver Rescue Mission at night and wandering the streets during the day. He said he was passing through town and and hasn't been able to gather up the money to get back to Great Falls. He was using his boots because as a pillow because as he put it, "I need something to put my head on". Denver is working on a plan to turn Civic Center Park into a destination point in downtown Denver by possibly connecting it to the 16th Street Mall and perhaps even burying part of Colfax Avenue to make the whole area more pedestrian friendly. The ambitious plan calls for reviving the area around the park that has largely become a haven for drug dealers and users and the homeless. The city hopes to make the park an entertainment center with food stands, concerts, film series and other attractions. (Photo by MARC PISCOTTY/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
