(DENVER, Colo., March 2, 2005) Tom Beckwith with the Pope John Paul II's Choir , now called Musicians of St. Clare, were formed in 1993 at World Youth Day in Denver. They are rehearsing at St. John's Lutheran Church in Denver for a Rome program to be performed for the people of Rome in November. The Pope took a shine to them at World Youth Day in 1993. Then Arch Bishop Stafford (now a Cardinal) gave the choir as a gift to the Holy Father and the Pope considers the choir a spiritual fruit of world youth day. They are authorized by the St. Peter Choir Office in the Vatican to sing papal liturgy and are the only musical group on 48 hours notice to fly to Rome when the Pope dies.
