NYT50 - (NYT50) UNDATED -- May 31, 2004 -- STEPFORD-FASHION -- Visions of "dopey pretty'' perfection, in the remake of "The Stepford Wives.'' The florals no longer seem so twisted, given current fashion designs. Once substituted by machinery, the wives of Stepford are memorably dolled up in flounced, floor-length, vaguely bohemian cotton print dresses. The costuming in the original film failed the message of the book miserably. (Andrew Schwartz/Paramount Pictures/The New York Times)**ONLY FOR USE WITH STORY BYGINIA BELLAFANTE SLUGGED: STEPFORD-FASHION. ALL OTHER USE PROHIBITED.
