(05/09/2005, Denver, CO) Rachel (cq), 17, was at school at North High School when she got off on the wrong path and started ditching with her then boyfriend. After a series of events, her aunt ended up taking her out of school and telling her that she was going to have to go to work in the real world. Rachel got a job at Heidi's Brooklyn Deli at 32nd and Lowell in Northwest Denver, where she likes her job, but she found that it does not beat going to school. She said, "I want to be a student right now, not a grown-up yet - I am still a little kid!" Rachel is now enrolled to go to the Contemporary Learning Academy this summer to make up for the time she lost this semester and will go back to North the following semester. "I miss being in class and picking up a pencil." She is bagging bread at work with Amanda (cq), 17, who was also at North High School. She moved to Aurora, then came back to northwest Denver, but North officials said it was too late to re-enroll before the semester ended. She will be back at North next Fall. Rachel said that she cannot wait to start school and to get back to work on her diploma. Although she likes her job at Heidi's a lot, she does not feel that making sandwiches is what she is destined to do for the rest of her life.
