(NYT13) NEW YORK -- July 11, 2004 -- TYNAN-TENOR -- Ronan Tynan at his agent's office in Manhattan on July 6, 2004. Tynan is so busy that he is giving up performing with the Irish Tenors. He is the closest thing this country has to an official meistersinger, and he isn't even a citizen. The Irish Tenors, not to be confused with the Celtic Tenors, a tuxedo-shunning knockoff group, were formed in 1998 in more or less frank imitation of the Three Tenors, the ensemble of Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, and Jose Carreras, which has filled concert halls and stadiums and sold classical CD's in record numbers.
