Adams County Regional Park on April 25, 2005. Adams County residents Mike Lloyd(cq) and Wayne Muhler (cq), say that it used to be a gravel pit, and that this as an example of how former gravel pits should be treated. They are alleging that Aggregate Industries, a gravel pit mining company, is committing massive violations along the Platte River where its operations are and that the state mining board is doing nothing to stop it. They are concerned that when Aggregate Industries begins a new gravel pit near both of their properties, that the company will not do reclamation on it when they are done, similar to the one behind them. They say reclamation can include re-grading the banks so they are not so steep and dangerous, and allowing water to fill up into the pits to create a recreation area.
