(Minneapolis, Minn., July 15, 2004) Using an American Indian format of justice, groups in Minnesota are forming community circles to handle domestic violence cases. The group is in partnership with the judicial system and can sentence the offenders. Citizens volunteer their time and energy to help victims and perpetrator resolve their issues by bringing them to a circle of their peers. At the start and end to the session the group joins hands and leader Mark LaPointe (in the back in blue shirt) says a prayer. Victim and perpetrator Michele Ann Norlund and Randy Norland respectively stand next to him (l-r) (Photo by LINDA MCCONNELL/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
