(DENVER, Co. - SHOT 4/18/2005) Slavens School first grader Ian Sukle, 7, of Denver gets his hair styled by Jennie Laxson of Arvada after having a large portion of it cut off as part of a "Cut Your Hair Because You Care" event Monday at the school. Volunteer stylists from Hether's (cq) Gift and Beauty in Arvada took scissors to the hair that the students had been growing for more than a year to donate to "Locks of Love," a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss, usually from a condition called alopecia areata. It takes about 8 ponytails to make one hairpiece. Sukle was the only male participant in the event and said he had been growing his hair for about a year.
