(from left) 4 year-old Jaritzia Nevarez (cq) and 6 year-old Oscar Morova peek through the gates of Johnny Lee Sandoval's home, as Halloween puppets populate his front yard in Denver on October 15, 2008. This 49 year-old, loves Halloween. Since 1999, he has set up an elaborate Halloween puppet display on his home in southwest Denver. He makes all the puppets- almost 30 of them now- Frankenstein, Dracula, Jason, Freddy and a supporting cast of ghouls, demons and skeletons. At dusk, Sandoval puts on the music, turns on the lights and starts pulling strings. "The community has responded to me in a way that I never expected," he told a Rocky Mountain News reporter. "It makes them happy and if a man can do that in his lifetime, that's a dream come true to have your community love you." Recently a neighbor complained about, as Sandoval puts it, "bringing out the riff-raff out on the streets", and disapproved his music and special noise effects that bring his characters to life- or in this case, out of death. His neighbor even called the police to his home, and threatened to complain to the county commissioner if he didn't stop the sounds coming from his front yard.
