Denver, Colo., {October 6, 2004}) The city has poured $75 million into the construction of Denver's new Ellie Caulkins Opera House inside the shell of the city's historic Newton Auditorium, the oldest municipal building in the nation. Denver cultural institutions generate $1.3 billion in revenue, with $497 million coming fom outside the metro area, according to a study by the Colorado Business Comittee for the Arts. THIS IS NOT THE OPERA HOUSE, BUT CONSTRUCTION WORKERS WELD A STAIRWAY LEADING TO THE GRAND GALLERY IN NEWTON AUDITORIUM. THE GALLERY WILL HOLD UP TO 700 PEOPLE AND A PERFORMANCE SPACE.
