(LAKEWOOD, Colo., October 5, 2004) Paul Peubla, of Lakewood, Colo., enacts taking a hit and falling wounded to the ground while playing the part of a union soldier fighting the Confederate army. As it turns out, this moment reflects closely a famous real-life war photo from the Spanish Civil War taken by renowned war photographer Robert Capa in 1936. The mock battle was part of a day-long Civil War re-enactment at Red Rocks Community College, 13300 W. 6th Ave. in Lakewood and was among the activities at RRCC's 2nd annual Civil War Day. The event was sponsored by the RRCC Veteran's Club and featured the skirmish between the Union and Confederate troop re-enactors from the Company D 1st Colorado Volunteers Infantry (union) and 1st Lousiana Wheat's Special Batallion (confederate). In addition, the day long expose had dressed soldiers speaking of details of "then" in a "now" kinda setting. Students of the school came down and asked questions and acted surprised as information, formerly unknown, was disseminated. (Photo by STEVEN R NICKERSON / ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
