(NEDERLAND, Co., SHOT 6/7/2004) Mark Parsons (far right), a research assistant at the University of Colorado, from Boulder pulls a ground penetrating radar device along the slope of the Arapaho Glacier one afternoon as they record snowpack levels in the araea. Scientists from the University of Colorado have been studying the effects of global warming on the Arapaho Glacier near Nederland for about five years. Using new techniques such as radar, the scientists are hoping to find the total amount of snowpack in the glacier and the long-term net loss of snowpack because of global warming.
