(NEDERLAND, Co., SHOT 6/7/2004) Fabian Walter, a graduate student working with Tad Pfeffer, makes the long and steep climb out of the Arapaho Glacier with some of the parts for the ground penetrating radar on his back. The more than 12 hour hike into the glacier was part adventure, part science. Scientists from the University of Colorado have been studying the effects of global warming on the Arapaho Glacier near Nederland for about five years. Using new techniques such as radar, the scientists are hoping to find the total amount of snowpack in the glacier and the long-term net loss of snowpack because of global warming.
