(DENVER, Colo., October 1, 2004) Berta Mora brought her bird down for the annual blessing. It had an injured wing and needed some help. This is Mission and Heritage week of Franciscan Ministries. In honor of St. Francis and his love of animals a blessing specific to the animals was held today in the West Club Room of Francis Heights, 2626 Osceola St. presided over by Resident Chaplain Father Declan Madden, O.F.M. (long white beard and glasses, sitting, Father Januarius Izzo, O.F.M. seated in wheelchair blessing with holy water and Sister Maggie Ryan, O.S.F. all of Francis Heights. The residents were invited to bring their animals to the event this morning which initially was to be held outside but brought indoors due to inclement weather. The animals mean so much to the residents. The idea is to bring honor to the presence of animals in our lives giving thanks for the companionship they provide.
