(AURORA, Colo., September24, 2004) The Snakenberg family embraced surrounded by the entire freshman football team all around the fifty yard line just after the pledge of allegience and before the release of the balloons to the heavens. Jacob Snakenberg was honored before the start of a football game Friday, Sept. 24, 2004. The game at Legacy Stadium, Cherokee Trail High School, 25901 E. Arapahoe Road, was between Grandview High School and Smoky Hill High School. Jacob was a freshman football player at Grandview. The entire freshman team, some 64 players according to a coach, put on their jerseys and carried white balloons to the 50 yard line. Joined by the Snakenberg family, they held a moment of silence then released all the balloons. The audience each received a balloon upon entrance too whether they made a donation or not. The football game proceeded with the freshmen allowed on the sidelines for the first half to cheer on their team. (Photo by: STEVEN R. NICKERSON / ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
