(Salida, CO. - SHOT 5/20/2004) World War II Army veteran William Archuletta, 78, of Salida served as an infantryman and landed on Omaha Beach during the D-Day Invasion. He said he was one of only six men of nearly 200 in his company to survive the war. He was wounded twice during his tour of duty and received two Purple Hearts. He wa reflected in a case containing some of his numerous medals. He said the Purple Heart is the medal he is the most proud of receiving. (MARC PISCOTTY/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
