On Friday, August 31, 2007, Aurora Police were called to the scene of a suspicious death in the 1100 block of South Quintero Street. Responding officers arrived and found 44-year-old Dawn Cassell and her boyfriend, David Charles Wells (DOB: 5/16/58), suffering from multiple stab wounds. Wells was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Ms. Cassell was pronounced deceased at the scene. Subsequent investigation by detectives revealed that last Friday evening, Ms. Cassell and her boyfriend were discovered in their town home by Ms. CassellÍs brother who then called police. Some time prior to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Wells stabbed his girlfriend repeatedly before attempting to take his own life. Investigators continue to piece together the events leading up to Ms. CassellÍs tragic death. Detectives executed a search warrant at the town home where the crime occurred and are in the process of seeking several additional search warrants. Detectives with the Major Crime/Homicide Unit will recommend to the Arapahoe County District AttorneyÍs Office that Wells be charged with Murder in the 1st Degree in death of Dawn Cassell. Wells is expected to be transported from the Aurora Municipal Jail to the Arapahoe County Jail some time later today.
