The Aurora Police Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint Friday, Aug. 24, 2007 just west of S. Buckley Rd. on eastbound Iliff Ave. The night's operation was dedicated in memory of Arlene Gavrilis who was killed in the early morning hours June 4, 2005, a day that was to have been Gavrilis' wedding day. Her car was struck by another vehicle driven by an impaired driver traveling in excess of 100 mph. NOTE: Aurora PD should be contacted for a final count of cars that passed through the checkpoint and the number of arrests that resulted. (MARK T.
