On August 21, 2007, Mercedes became a United States Citizen. The mystery hand around Mercedes neck belongs to Zared Rodriguez, 3, her daughter. Today, Representative Marilyn Musgrave (cq) hosted a naturalization ceremony at the beautiful Moraine Park outdoor amphitheater in Rocky Mountain National Park on Tuesday, August 21, 2007. Over 50 individuals from Larimer, Boulder, Weld, Morgan Counties and the Denver-metro region took an oath to become United States citizens. According to a recent Pew Hispanic Center's report, 11.3 million naturalized citizens live in the United States. Nearly eight million immigrants living in the United States are eligible for naturalization. To Become a U.S. Citizen an individual must meet the following requirements: 1- Live in the U.S. for at least 5 years as a permanent resident (or 3 years if married to and living with a U.S. citizen). 2- Be present in the U.S. for at least 30 months out of the past 5 years (or 18 months out of the past 3 years if married to and living with a U.S. citizen).
