(WESTMINSTER, CO., MAY 19, 2004) Alice Ferebee Shelley, 89, of Westminster, Colo., pulls back the collar of her blouse revealing her bi-venticular pacemaker which she received in March of 2000 as part of a University of Colorado health study. Alice Ferebee Shelley was in need of a heart transplant but at her age was not an ideal candidate. Instead she became the first patient in the area to recieve such a device in a national study led by Dr. Michael Bristow at University Hospital. "If I didn't have this implant you wouldn't be talking to me," said Alice Ferebee Shelley.
