(BRUSH, Colo., March 3, 2004) Harold carefully locates and adjusts the heater after dinner, before bedtime, as he was getting a little chilly... Today was a special, yet regular day. A day full of activities surrounding Harold and his needs. A couple days ago Harold lost his balance getting dressed reaching for his belt. He fell and hit the back of his head. Stitches were required. His appetite waned. The family decided to put him in a nursing home monday if he didn't get better sunday. The weekend wasa stress. The doctor told Stan that Harold is entering another phase of his elderlyness. If watched more closely, he will be fine to stay at home where he belongs. Relief and pride at discovery filled Stan. Dad, for now, is still at home.... and an evening drive to the sunset is eagerly anticipated. It is relaxing for both. It begins with a quaint tradition at the McDonalds drive thru, "i'd like a cup of coffee, black and two cups please, " Stan requests. Thirty-seven cents later Stan pours half for Harold, with a lid, and they are off passing his first home at Riverside Ranch and his first honeymoon apartment downtown where the freezer was a cold reach out the window into an orange milk crate attached to the outside wall. Discussions revolve around"the good old days" as Stan puts it and Harold starts a quiet and gentle singing-like hum. A quaint location at the intersection of dirt way and asphalt row in the middle of the nowhere land the two both know so well, Stan tells Harold of the sunset andits beauty. Harold interprets. The two head home. Harold and Stan Gray are father and son. Harold is 103 and has been legally blind for 18 years. Stan is 76. Recently Stan moved back in with Harold to the home where he originated to help his father in the last times of his life have better times and still sleep in the bed he has made for over 75 years.
