DLM0719 Leroy Salgado Jr. sits inside his 1966 Chevy Impala. The car was in need of a lot of work when Leroy gave it to his little brother, Gabe Salgado, as a birthday gift. Gabe dreamed of fixing it up before he was killed by shotgun blast fired by a known Sureño gang member named Rogelio Mares outside a party held by a rival gang called the Norteños on Oct. 31, 2004. Mares was convicted and sentenced to 50 years in prison for the shooting. In the months after Gabe's death Leroy poured his grief and love for his brother into the car and completely restored it to show quality. In 2005 the car won top honors in Greeley's Cinco de Mayo Car Show. (DARIN MCGREGOR/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) **Leroy Salgado Jr. (cq) **Gabe Salgado (family) **Rogelio Mares (cops)
