(AURORA, Colo., Aug. 25, 2004) Regis High School first year math teacher Annemarie Welch of Denver readies her cllassroom for the first day of classes Wednesday afternoon. Regis High School is the first high school in the country to offer all-girls Jesuit education. The school just recently started accepting young women and is set to open the girls division in the old boys' building that has been remodeled. The two campuses are separated by a courtyard and the two sexes aren't allowed to intermingle during the school day. Proponents of single-sex education say that the kids receive a better education without the added distractions that occur in other settings. (Photo by MARC PISCOTTY/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
