(DENVER, CO., Aug 9, 2004) Scherezade (cq), a trumpeter swan, rest in a small pools as Laura Mayfield (lt) watches Scherezade and volunteer Bob Booth (rt) clean a cage. Denver Police are investigating a break-in at Wild B.I.R.D. (acronym for Bird Information & Rehabilitation of Denver), 1132 Verbena in Denver. The swan was found in the middle of the street two blocks away by Denver Police officers who returned her to the center. Those responsible for the act released most of the birds from the cages at the Wild B.I.R.D. center. They also stole money and equipment from the center. Fourteen of the birds being cared for at the center were retrieved. However, more than a dozen birds died from stress or injuries suffered as a result of the break-in.
