As the sun goes down, a Sandhill Crane flies to the wet lands to roost for the night, Sunday evening, March 11, 2007, at the Monte Vista National wildlife Reserve. Sandhill Cranes mate for life and live 20 - 30 years. Approximately 23,000 - 27,000 Sandhill Cranes migrate biannually through the San Luis Valley. A crane can stand four feet tall and have a wing span of 6 feet. Cranes live from 20 - 30 years and breed about 2 - 5 years. (KEN PAPALEO/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
