(DLM4465) - Lt. Col. Barbara Wickham, a public affairs officer with the Colorado National Guard, gives retired Brigadier General Felix Sparks a kiss as she and her family visit him at his home in Lakewood, Colo. Years after serving in WWII Sparks commanded the Colorado National Guard from 1969 until 1977 and the Guard dedicated its armory in his honor. Lt. Col. Wickham and Maj. General Mason Whitney, the current commander of the Colorado National Guard, have both played important roles in filing the request to reconsider Sparks for the Distinguished Service Cross for his act of bravery at the battle of Reipertsweiler 62 years ago.
