(CODER101) (CODER101) Daniel Howell, (cq), a Las Animas, Colo., student and member of the Future Farmers of America club, presents a map to Colorado state legislators in the Old Supreme Court Chambers of the Colorado State Capitol Building in Denver on Tuesday, March 6, 2007. The map shows land presently controlled in southeast Colorado by the U.S. Army, in green, and the military's proposed expansion, surrounding in grey. State Rep. Wes McKinley, (D -Walsh), sponsored House Bill 1069 to attempt to curb expansion by the Ft. Carson army post of the Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site through an exercise of eminent domain; although the acquistion could not be prevented by the state. Howell was joined by four other Las Animas County FFA students and an advisor express their beliefs that if the military is allowed to take the land, it will ruin the heritage of their families and their futures as farmers.
