According to statistics released by the Denver Department of Public Safety the Bear Valley neighborhood saw crime drop by a whopping 36.5 percent, the most of any area of the city. Overall crime dropped by 10 percent in Denver in 2006. Sarah's mother, Carolyn Alexander, works as a reading assistant at the school and moved into the Bear Valley neighborhood right around the time that Sarah was born. She came there because it was a safe neighborhood with good schools. She was surprised and very pleased to hear that crime in the neighborhood dropped by such a big number.
