2 Inmates Escape from County Jail At approximately 9:40 pm on Wednesday, November 23rd, a citizen passing by the Pueblo County Jail reported they saw what appeared to be an inmate sliding down the North face of the building. Staff members immediately locked down the facility and conducted a head count. The count revealed that two men being held on felony charges housed in wing 4B were not accounted for. 22 year old Daniel Ernesto Smith was the first discovered missing. Smith is described as 5'07, 190 pounds with very short brown hair, brown eyes and several tattoos (listed below). He was being housed in the Pueblo County Jail on charges of 1st degree Kidnapping. Scott Anthony Gomez, 21, was discovered missing shortly after and he is described as 5'04, 130 pounds with a crew cut, brown hair and brown eyes. Gomez was on a Department of Corrections Hold and has a history of escape. The initial investigation indicates that the individuals broke out a piece of the ceiling and climbed into a heating vent that led to the exterior of the building. They had fashioned bed sheets into a rope and climbed down to a 1st floor roof then jumped onto the ground. Pueblo County Investigators, Pueblo County Star and Stat teams, as well as the Pueblo Police Department, Department of Corrections Investigators and K-9's from both DOC and Pueblo County Sheriffs Office are working into the night to attempt to apprehend the individuals. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of either individual is asked to call the Pueblo County Sheriffs Office or Pueblo Crime Stoppers. If any citizen comes in contact with these individuals they are reminded not to approach them but to call 9-1-1. November 22, 2006 -#- For immediate release Daniel E
