Jamie Warner (CQ), 26, of Castle Rock, Colo.,left, and cousin Danielle Gleson (CQ), right, huddle together to keep warm in the Pepsi Center Parking lot at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday morning Oct. 9, 2006 before walking in the 14th Annual Komen Denver Race for the Cure. The two walked for Gleson's mother Teri who also participated in the walk. 2006 marked the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation celebration of the 23rd Anniversary of the Komen Race for the Cure the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world. Since its inception in 1993, the Komen Denver Race for the Cure has grown from 3500 participants to more than 63,000 in 2004. In these 14 years, the Denver Metropolitan Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation has contributed more than $14 million to Denver Area not-for-profits focusing on breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs. In addition, the Denver Affiliate has provided more than $6 million to fund breast cancer research through the National Komen Foundation. Despite the fact that Colorado boasts only slightly more than 4 million residents, the Komen Denver Race for the Cure has held the coveted position as the largest Race for the Cure in the nation for the past 3 years.
