A State Patrol officer fired on an armed motorist he had pulled over on a possible DUI stop in Colorado Springs this morning. Colorado Springs Sgt. Sal Fiorillo said the patrolman made a routine traffic stop in the area of South Circle Driver and I-25 about 1:30 a.m. this morning. When the trooper started talking to the driver, the driver acted suspicious and the trooper believed he might have a gun. He asked him to step out and started to pat the driver down when the man bolted, then stopped and pulled out a handgun that he pointed toward the trooper who pulled his own weapon and fired a shot in the direction of the suspect who took off running. Members of the Colorado Springs police, El Paso County Sheriff's Office and State Patrol responded and searched for about an hour until a police K-9 picked up the scent about half a mile away and persuaded the man to surrender. He was taken to Memorial Hospital to be treated for dog bites and then booked on various charges including investigation of first-degree assault on a police officer. The suspect was identified as Tyrone Lesane, 29, of Colorado Springs.
