Lietanent Gov. Barbara O'Brien, Sen. Suzanne Williams (D- Aurora) and Sen. Paula Sandoval (D- Denver) (l-r) spoke to the media about their bill dealing with HPV in the press room at the State Capitol in Denver, Colo. on Monday January 29, 2007. Senate Bill 80 sponsored by Sen. Suzanne Williams (D-Aurora) and House Minority Leader Mike May (R-Parker) will take a stab at preventing cervical cancer-- HPV. Some 30,000 middle-school girls would get vaccinated against cervical cancer every year -- or produce a parental note opting out -- under a bill that has bipartisan support under the banner of saving dozens of lives annually. They say their bill comes at a perfect time, on the heels this summer of the great news that 70 percent of cervical cancer can be prevented if girls and women are immunized against the HPV virus.
