(DLM1249) - Rich Ackelson stands on the balcony outside his room at the Mesa Motel in Lakewood, Colo. Monday, Jan. 29, 2007. Ackelson, who is a homeless, took part in a statewide homeless count Monday, which was conducted at the motel by Linda Barringer of the Family Tree. The Vietnam veteran has been staying at the motel with his 14-year-old son for the past two months. His face bears the bruises from when he was jumped a couple nights ago while walking down the street near the motel. "I don't know if they were trying to rob me. I don't have any money," said Ackelson. The Family Tree and other agencies across the state in conjunction with Colorado Interagency Council on Homelessness conducted surveys with homeless families across the state as part of a two-part statewide count to determine what homelessness looks like in Colorado.(DARIN MCGREGOR/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) **Rich Ackelson (cq) **Linda Barringer (press release)
