The new Governor of Colorado Bill Ritter signed his first proclamation Wednesday, January 10, 2006, declaring the day "Cortlandt Dietler Day." Dietler (l) was not very excited to have all the attention on him and laughed when the Governor said just that. The exact wording of the proclamation is below. (JUDY DEHAAS/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) ** Honorary Proclamation CORTLANDT "CORT" DIETLER DAY January 10, 2007 WHEREAS, Cort Dietler, a great lover of the West, has served as an ambassador and guardian for what the West was, is, and will become; and WHEREAS, Cort, a successful businessman, has generously supported the community, and his quiet efforts have had a resounding impact; and WHEREAS, countless institutions have given Cort public honors, and he is widely regarded as a person whose contributions have been both abundant and thankless; and WHEREAS, with a pioneer's disposition, Cort Dietler is a leader of the greatest magnitude, and as many of our forefathers are renowned for, leads by action rather than pontification; and WHEREAS, the State of Colorado honors Cort Dietler as a true and consummate Citizen of the West for his work on behalf of the citizens of Colorado and the tireless advocacy he has put forth on their behalf; Now Therefore, I, Bill Ritter Jr., Governor of the State of Colorado, do hereby proclaim January 10, 2007, CORTLANDT "CORT" DIETLER DAY in the State of Colorado.
