Team Canada snow sculptor Ron Pearce (cq) of Ontario uses a wire saw to cut off a large chunk of snow as the 17th Budweiser Select International Snow Sculpture Championships got under way Tuesday January 23, in Breckenridge. Fourteen teams from five foreign countries and nine teams from across the United States have 65 hours to transform their 12 foot tall and 20 ton heavy block of man-made snow into a work of art before this Saturday's judging. The sculptures will remain on display in Breckenridge until Sunday February 4, 2007 weather permitting. Team Canada was working on roughing in the shape of a human hand holding an origami squirrel. Team Idaho is working on their sculpture in the background. (MARC PISCOTTY/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) CQ Ron Pearce
