Maryanne Bruno (Cq), and her husband Ralf Meier (cq), joke with master timber framer Helmut Elbs, right, during the third day of the assembly of a pre-fab home in Fourmile Canyon in Boulder. Meier is the general contractor for the project. The house was pre-fabricated in a factory in Germany by Platz, and will take 4-5 days to assemble. The story is about large, incredibly well-built homes shipped in from Germany because they have much higher energy-efficiency standards over there (thicker glass and walls, etc) and their craftsmanship is very high quality. They even bring in German home builders (clad in traditional craftsman's garb) to put the thing up.
