Annette Roberts Gray (cq) lights a candle in one of the memorial vases she made in her Glenwood Springs studio, Wednesday January 3, 2007. She likes the way the names are illuminated in the porcelain vases. She began making the vases - one for each soldier killed in Iraq - two years ago and has made 900 so far. She's not sure she can finish the project. " I've become emotionally attached to the project. It's hard to distance myself from the numbers but at some point I need to bring it to an end," she said. Originally she thought the number would total 1500 vases . Now the death toll has climbed to over 3000. Each vase contains the name of the soldier, insignia of branch of service , and the age they were when they died. (PHOTO/ DENNIS SCHROEDER/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS) **Annette Roberts Gray (cq)
