The Flight For Life helicopter takes off from the football field across from Platte Canyon High School with a female student aboard who was critically injured in a hostage standoff at the school Wednesday. She was transported to St. Anthony's Hospital in Denver. Park County Sheriff Fred Wegener said an unidentified gunman who took students at Platte Canyon High School in Bailey hostage today shot one of the hostages before shooting himself at about 3:30 p.m. as officers stormed the classroom where he was holding the two students hostage. The other hostage in the room escaped injury. The wounded girl was flown to St. Anthony's Central Hospital where she was rushed to emergency surgery, said spokeswoman Bev Lilly. As many as six students had been held hostage during the standoff but a number were released during the course of the day until negotiations with the gunman broke down and SWAT rushed the school.
