Vrnda Noel (cq Vrnda Noel) looks for the names of soldiers on a list she has that were killed in duty, to put flowers on them Monday morning October 9, 2006. The list - given to her by her son Eli who is a combat medic with the 10th Mountain Division. He asked her to put flowers on the boots with names of soldiers he has been associated with. The Eyes Wide Open memorial, sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee, features a pair of boots honoring each US military casualty and civilian shoes representing a small portion of Iraqi deaths. The boots are symbolic, and most were purchased by the exhibit, although some were donated by veterans.
