Edith Crowley (cq) (rt) strains past Floyd Jenkins (cq) and Carol Wiley (cq) to get her sliced potatoes into a container. On March 27, 2006, EarthLinks invited homeless and low-income folks to make Stone Soup, a soup to which each participant added one vegetable until the soup is hearty enough to feed a large group. EarthLinks is a nonprofit experiential Earth-education organization that engages economically poor city residents in mutually enhancing relationship with Earth and an expanded sense of community. Through sharing experiences of the natural world, participants gain a renewed perspective in their lives and act in ways that benefit both themselves and the larger society.(JUDY DEHAAS/ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS)
